Sigur Rós – Fjögur píanó
Shia LaBeouf’s nudity is all the talk over this avant-garde music video, directed by Alma Har’el for Sigur Rós’s “Fjögur píanó.” The 8 minute project is the third installment in the Sigur Rós Mystery Film Experiment series.
It’s meaning is vague and certainly open to interpretation, however it seems it could illustrate the progressions of addiction, the existence of multiple cores of behavior. Labeouf and co-star Denna Thomsen relish in the beauty of each other and simple movement. Their expressions of love and mystical experience culminate as they are blown by mysterious influences to an acid insect experience, presumably the highest of their highs. It cuts then to a tearful Shia and Denna, in a room of butterfly specimens, where their anger, sadness and violence surface. They wake the same as they did in the film’s introduction, indicating a cycle of happiness and destructive nature.
Set to the still and beautiful “Fjögur píanó,” the constant tone of the song isn’t affected by the chaos on film, a juxtapositional feature that highlights both extremes. Confusion is part of the key, so watch it twice, and not just for Shia’s.. sexy hair.
